Physical Therapy Shoulder Pain Treatment

It is always important to treat shoulder pain. Conservative methods are the most popular and a great place to start! When experiencing pain from a shoulder injury or a condition, physical therapy might be the first recommended treatment. However, depending on the severity of your injury will also determine the plan.

During your first physical therapy session, your licensed physical therapist will determine the correct exercises and treatment plan for your shoulder pain. Our physical therapists at Spine & Orthopedic Center offer PT equipment with comfortable space and different methods for optimal healing too!

First, our physical therapists will go over your imaging and your physician’s notes on your injury or condition. Then, the therapist will customize your treatment plan. This plan may include passive physical therapy, such as ice packs, heat application, and electro-stimulation. Then, he/she will begin to incorporate active physical therapy into your sessions for shoulder pain. Active physical therapy includes stretches and exercises for strengthening the area that is injured or worsening your condition.

Our physical therapists use the McKenzie Method for their treatment plans. Interested in learning more about this method? Click here.

What if PT Doesn’t Help with my Shoulder Pain?

Sometimes, conservative methods don’t help relieve pain. Therefore, we will try a different approach to our treatment plan. Then, if the pain is still persistent, an orthopedic doctor will be here to help. An orthopedic physician will go over all of the past treatment methods and plans and help create a new treatment plan. Sometimes, injections might be considered, or a surgical approach may also be necessary. Of course, these methods are not explored, though, until all conservative approaches are looked into.
