Depending on your level of back pain, office chairs have many special traits to search for before choosing a specific one. Below are some of these special features which provide you with extra support and comfort.

Office Chairs for Back Support:

Supportive Lumbar

The lower spine has a natural tendency to curve inward. But, without the proper support, you can cause irreparable damage to your back, especially when sitting for an extended length of time. A lumbar support office chair allows you to lower and raise the backrest with an adjustable knob. These are usually constructed of flexible mesh material, conforming perfectly with your back. Chairs that have a padded backrest can also be adjusted and are specifically designed to curve with the lower lumbar.

Deepened Seat

The depth of the seat should allow you to sit back comfortably with at least 4 inches amidst your chair’s seat and the back of your knees. Check for an office chair with an adjustable seat that moves back and forth. Try sitting in several different chairs before making your final decision, and find the one that provides you with both support and comfort.

Height Adjustability

Office chairs that encourage good posture will all you to sit completely back with your feet firmly planted on the ground. It is recommended to have a seat height of at least 21 inches from the bottom of the floor. Getting a chair with an adjustable lever allows you to reach the ideal height.

A Higher Back and Footrest

While searching for the perfect office chair find one which comfortably aligns with your spinal column.  By having a backrest that supports your upper back, you are less likely to slouch over. One with an added headrest also promotes good posture and puts less tension on the cervical spine.

Arm Adjustability

Surprisingly enough, taking the pressure off of your neck and shoulders also reduces back pain. Yet, with adjustable armrests, you can eliminate that problem. Just remember to get an office chair with armrests with a ninety-degree angle. Allowing your elbows to rest comfortably while doing computer work. Preferably one which slides inward and enables you to keep your arms closer to the body.

Breathable Textured Upholstery

Something you might not consider but is highly important is office chair upholstery. This is especially so when sitting on it for hours at a time. Abrasive material will cause the body to generate excessive amounts of heat and tend to be uncomfortable. So, keep an out for medium-textured upholstery which is breathable. Guaranteeing you a more enjoyable sitting time.

Overall Flexibility

Ergonomic office chairs will help oxygen flow smoothly through the blood. Not only do they allow you to move freely but give your body the support it needs. That being said, test drive several chairs before making the final purchase. Your back will thank you for it.
